Essentials Collection

Our pieces are expertly made in Bali, Indonesia by a small family-owned business. All the materials that are used in our products are well-considered and chosen to provide you with premium quality pieces that reflect you and our commitment to ethical production. Check out the information below to find out more about the fabric that your piece is made with.

Modal is a semi-synthetic fabric made from beech tree pulp. SHADIE BY EA uses TENCEL™ Modal which is sourced from well-known manufacturers of the fabric, Lenzing AG. This means that our modal is from renewable raw material beech wood sources.

TENCEL Modal™ is harvested from PEFC or FSC sustainably managed tree plantations in Austria and other European countries. Modal fibres produce material that feels twice as soft as cotton and lasts twice as long as it can withstand more wash cycles. The process used to develop modal has also been found to use up to 20 times less water than the processes used to make cotton.

Additionally, modal is also biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions, meaning that it returns back to nature. You can find out more about TENCEL Modal™ here.

In terms of wear, other benefits of this luxury fabric include:

  • Ultra-soft
  • Durable for long wear
  • Breathable
  • Does not pill
  • Water absorbent (50% more than cotton)

Our material is then cut and sewn by our lovely workers and seamstress.

Our are paid a living wage. This is significantly more than minimum wage and means they have access to basic needs such as food, housing, healthcare, clothing, transportation, energy, water, childcare, education, other essential needs including some discretionary money and provision for unexpected events. In addition, they are able to support their family members.

To cut down on waste, our excess material is used to make small accessories like scrunchies which are also available to purchase. For every accessory we sell, one tree is planted in Australia. Read more below.

Where your trees are planted

As of November 2021, we have donated money from our Essential Scrunchie purchases to plant 35 trees through One Tree Planted.

We're all about transparency here, so, we have attached an image of our recent receipt and certificate from One Tree Planted for the 35 trees we planted. We also note that as One Tree Planted is a US-based organisation, the doations we make to the organisation are not tax-deductible for us as an Australian business.

One Tree Planted plants trees in Australia between June and August. Learn more about tree planting in Ausralia here.

We're always working to develop and enhance our transparency and commitment to ethical practices.
